Developing the website design

We felt like the website background was too busy and distracted from the content, becuase if this we have made the headers the whole screen, with a clickable arrow going down to the information. We have also desided to keep each page in the same colour theme to keep the whole website cohesive.

Animatic (storyboard transformed into short video) Demonstrates timing and helps us gather what the storyline will be, this is a rough cut, will be tidied up during the animation process.

Website designs

Our website is going to be 3 pages, the first home page will have our video on it. The second page will have more information about plastic bag pollution, and the final page will have the solution, so in our case information about reusable bags, and where they can be purchased. Below is the begginings of our website design.

Possible designs for the headers of our website pages.

Drawings for our animation

We want our animation to have a hand drawn aesthetic, because of this we want to hand generate as much as possible to achieve this.

Story boards

We have started to bring in some colour and more images into the storyboard to help visualise how our animation may start to look.

Initial image generation

Mood Board

Our animation is going to communicate the damage plastic bag use has on the environment and wildlife.  We are going to offer reusable bags as an alternative. We want our animation to have an illustrative quality to it because we feel that the reflects an environmentally conscious image rather than a heavily computer generated style which seems more artificial. Through a fun, modern and quirky design aesthetic we plan to appeal to young adults and first-time flatters. It is important to communicate the information using simple language and engaging graphics so that it doesn't feel like being back at school. The alternative of re-usable bags needs to be conveyed as not too much effort, it needs to be a small change that if everyone gets on board will make a big impact.

Plastic bags

  •  8.8 million tons of plastic make their way into the oceans every single year, and researchers have predicted that if our current rate of irresponsible disposal continues, there could be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050.
  •  A toxic substance called leachate, that typically forms when plastic begins the process of breaking down (a process that is extremely slow – it takes around 1,000 years), has found its way into local groundwater supplies. People who live near landfills tend to experience a variety of health problems, ranging from low birth weight to congenital defects and higher-than-usual rates of cancer. http://www.onegreenplanet.org/environment/if-ads-promoting-consumerism-told-the-truth/
  • Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth four times.
  • Less than 1% of plastic bags are recycled.
  • Over the last ten years we have produced more plastic than during the whole of the last century.
  • About 2 million plastic bags are used every minute around the world- that's over 1 trillion plastic bags every year, worldwide.
  • Plastic bags don't biodegrade, they break down into smaller fragments which readily soak up toxins, then they contaminate soil, waterways, and Animals upon digestion.
